First held in 1950, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is widely regarded as the premier event for classic car enthusiasts. Each year, the event draws the automotive elite to one of the most scenic spots on earth to see the world’s most prized collector cars.

The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is held annually in Monterey, California and is considered by car enthusiasts everywhere to be one of the most exciting events on the car-world calendar. The first Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance was held in 1950 and the event has been going strong ever since then. It is the finale of Monterey Car Week held in August every year.

The first Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance was held in conjunction with the first Pebble Beach Road Race where Phil Hill won the Road Race driving a Jaguar XK120. Best of Show that year went to a 1950 Edwards R-26 Special Sport Roadster.

The event is open to both prewar and postwar collector cars in which they are judged for authenticity, function, history, and style. Classes are commonly arranged by type, marque (manufacturer), coachbuilder, country of origin, or time period. Judges select first-, second-, and third-place finishers for each class in the event. Of the various awards given at the car show, the most significant is Best of Show.

Since 1950, Pebble Beach has been host to the finest exhibition of show cars in the world – Newsday

Winning a class blue ribbon is an honor that takes both an amazing car, and equally serious determination and money by owners. It is not unusual for owners to invest several million dollars to get a “100-point” car. That’s why Pebble Beach Concours traditionally attracts the most serious collectors in the business.

Two things we love about the Pebble Beach event is that they honor a featured manufacturer or coachbuilder and the proceeds of the entire event have supported the United Way of Monterey County and the Pebble Beach Company Foundation for a combination of 56 years. Pebble Beach Concours Class Winners

Pebble Beach Concours Class Winners

The invitation only Pebble Beach Concours is stacked with award winning-worthy cars. 2015 alone saw more than 200 automotive classics roll up to the 18th hole of the famed Pebble Beach Golf Links to wow the car-loving audience and try to win awards under categories like ‘Elegance Awards’, ‘Special Awards’ and ‘Class Awards’. While those awards are nice, the most important is the ‘Best of Show’ – the event’s top award. It is the ultimate goal for every collector.

The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance judging process has two components: Class Judges focus primarily on originality and authenticity, while Honorary Judges direct their attention to design, styling and elegance. Cars that win their class become eligible to win Best of Show.

First, Second and Third in Class Winners are selected by Class Judges based on originality, authenticity, and proper and excellent preservation or restoration. Class Awards, representing the spirit of the Concours, are sculptures created from the Pebble Beach Concours Trophy.

Best of Show is chosen via a simple tally of the independent and secret ballots cast by the Chairman, Chairman Emeritus, Chief Judge, Chief Honorary Judge, Chief Class Judges, Honorary Judge Team Leaders, and selected Class Judges. The Best of Show Trophy is perpetual and is maintained at Pebble Beach, but the winner is presented with a Lalique Trophy and other mementos. The final nominees for Best of Show are also recognized.
